The Long flight home!

Waiting to board our 17 hr flight to Africa

Sarah is really good at booking flights, getting deals, and good seats. Having kids sometimes makes the flight better because you get more shoulder room when the guy next to you is your 6 year old. As long as you don't mind constantly helping him with the games on the airplane screen that he doesn't know how to play, and letting him sleep all over you. We pass the time with movies, snacks, and coloring books, but 17 hrs on a plane leads to sore bums and sour attitudes, especially when two kids have fever with cough the whole time. Not fun. Not fun at all. Friends on arrival. We have been traveling to and living in Africa since 2000 and along the way, we have made some really good friends. Marietta and Karen live just 20 min from the Johannesburg Airport and they have nice big SUV's so they can collect our whole family, with our 15 bags and 5 personal items and take us to their home where we are treated like royalty and have all the modern conveniences for a night or two before they give us a ride home to Botswana. We can travel into the unknown, but there is just so much comfort and joy when you are greeted with a smile by those that love you. The 17 hrs of travel washes away, and while you still feel like a jet lagged zombie running on no sleep, you are loved, forgiven for your slow thinking and short temper, your kids are allowed to make a car from pillows, and you know your in good hands. Friends were made for difficult times and we are blessed to have more than our fair share.
